An Open Letter to Our Community

In 2006 our "community enterprise" turns 10 years old. We have worked since 1991 with Tennessee’s oldest environmental organization Recycle! Nashville; managing the Green Neighborhoods Project.

In 1996 we branched into EarthMatters Tennessee, promoting our “green” concerns through Gardening, Recycling, Advocacy, Composting, and Education.

Like a child, EarthMatters Tennessee was born, learned to walk, talk and run. And like most ten-year-olds, we’re proud to be able to add that second digit to our age.

During this period we have also accomplished important goals in building the communities environmental awareness, aptitude and action. This is evidenced by - •the creation of dozens of gardens and education of gardeners

•soil made by the hands of volunteers through our annual “Leaf Lift” composting event

•experiential outdoor education to neighborhood groups, schools, churches and individuals

We haven’t stopped there. Over the past few months we have -

•invested in a trailer and hitch ($400)

•a newly redesigned website (www.EarthMattersNetWorks.com) ($300)

•a new, professionally designed brochure ($200 - still need to reproduce)

•purchased wood for the stage roof gables at the Park ($50)

•a professional sound board, speakers and amplifier ($200.00)

•purchased a 30'x10' windowed tent ($140)

•acquired a chain link "pen" to serve as our tool bank – to protect our tools and equipment ($250)

•a new sign design for our newly dubbed “Geo. W. Carver Food Park that will cost $400

We are extremely proud of our successes so far, made on behalf of our common environment. We’re running, studying, and plotting a limitless future. However, in spite of the enthusiasm and exuberance of youth, growth and development still have certain dependencies.

Our health, your health, and the health of the planet are dependent on our ability to share. We want to share our time, experience and knowledge. The earth wants to share its resources. However, we need your financial resources to complete this fulfilling cycle. Our goal, with your assistance, is to insure man’s place with the earth today and into the future.

Your financial gift will assist us in reaching our campaign goal of $25,000 for this fiscal year. This will allow us to keep a “green future” at the community forefront. And, it will enable us to continue the programs and projects we have undertaken for the year.
