The Leaf Lift Story/Our Local Crop Circle!

The Leaf Lift Story/Our Local Crop Circle!

Composting; evident, visual transformation. What is usually an undetectable

phenomenon is evident and miraculous as we "grow soil" each Saturday (and

throughout the week) at the eARTh Food Park. Since the inception of the Leaf

Lift contest, thousands of eager minds have come to the site to learn about

the magic and mystery of gardening, permaculture, composting, and local

eco-involvement.

Over the past 15 years, our giant land sculpture compost pile, aka

"earthworks" have taken on the shapes of four various symbols. In 1992 our

maiden design was an Egyptian ankh, a giant key of hope for us humans and

the environment. Approximately 10,000 rescued bags later, we completed the

"sight" and hosted several earth-centered symposiums and gatherings at the

ankh.

A few years later, at the Edgehill Community Garden, we installed a giant

infinity symbol. This represented unending, continuous revolution, symbolic

of our needs to unceasingly protect and preserve the Earth we share with all

living creatures.

In 1999, we created a peace sign to represent peace with ourselves and with

the planet Earth. Plans were to transform the symbol in 2001, however after

our national wake up call on 9-11, we had no choice but to continue

educating and building peace.

In Fall of 2003 we were inspired to convert the peace sign into a yin yang,

the cosmic symbol for balance. The power of the symbol's importance has been

enormous as we discuss and experience the "balance" of masculine/feminine,

light/dark, sweet/sour,happiness/sadness, life/death, etc. and the fact that

there is a little of each opposite within it's opposite.

What will the next gigantic eartwork land sculpture be? Come out,

participate and join us in the next transformation!
