Dr. Geo. W. Carver

George Washington Carver was world-renowned for his achievments in agriculture research. He taught southern sharecroppers and farmers how to grow and preserve nutritious foods and how to maximize their yield by rotating crops.

At the root of Carver's revolutionary scientific discoveries and innovations was a quest for connection with the Infinite and a relentless search for spiritual union with all of creation.

Through flowers and plants, Carver saw the larger picture of creation and the place of humans in this picture: "How do I talk to a little flower? Through it I talk to the Infinite... I refer to the unseen Spirit that defies the power of human reproduction, that challenges the power of human expression... When you look into the heart of a rose, there you experience it."

EarthMatters NetWORKS has been helping people and businesses learn about caring for the Earth for around fifteen years.

EarthMatters was established by Sizwe Herring after moving to Nashville 18 years ago. Herring unearthed his love for ecology while studying at Tuskegee University in Alabama. That's also where he tooke the name Sizwe, (SIZZ-way) a Zulu word for "land and nation."

During that same period, Herring became a disciple of the late scientist and Tuskegee professor who earned worldwide recognition for his research with peanuts.

Using lessons gleaned from Carver's philosphy, EarthMatters was developed to show people that life is a lot like agriculture: what you plant is what you pick.

If you or your organization would like to learn more about living lightly on the Earth, thriving in a cleaner, more natural environment, and teaching young people to take responsibility for their world contact us by e-mail or call us at (615) 252-6953 for more information!
